BANGALORE, INDIA: At his global Twitter press conference, advisor to the Prime Minister on public information infrastructure and innovations, Sam Pitroda, emphasised on bridging the urban-rural divide by establishing the rural broadband network.
"In the next 18 months, v plan to connect 2,50,000 panchayats# innovation," he tweeted, at the Global Innovation Roundtable 2012. (sic)
"We are introducing #innovation scholarships, TOD-FOD-JOD centres, Akash tablets and connectivity through NKN." (sic)
There would also be some workshops for rural children, he tweeted. "Workshops to help children dismantle & understand concepts behind everyday products: PC, mobile, TV etc." (sic)
He said that government envisions panchayats as hubs for service delivery to citizens as and when broadband connectivity is established.
"We have made progress on Innovation Fund, 7 clusters, scholarships, MP Awards, Meta University, NOFN, etc," he stated.
